I'd just like to congratulate the people who have pushed so hard for Congress to officially proclaim that the Armenian genocide was, in fact, a genocide. Your insistence upon our official recognition of an event that happened nearly 100 years ago has paid off by giving Turkey the pretext they were after to potentially start another genocide, this time involving the Kurds. So give yourselves a hand. You've earned it.

Turkish parliament approves Iraq incursion request

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey's parliament approved by a large majority on Wednesday a government request to allow troops to cross into northern Iraq to crush Kurdish rebels based there.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has played down expectations of an imminent offensive, but the parliamentary approval provides the legal basis for NATO's second biggest army to cross the mountainous border as and when it sees fit.
